R.I.P. John Hugues

There are echoing sounds of emptiness in the halls of Shermer High School tonight… Bueller?… Bueller?… Bueller?… John Hugues is no more, passing away at the age of 59 of a heart attack last yesterday. My childhood and teenage years would have not been the same without his films!

Which John Hugues movie was your favorite?!

I gotta admit that I loved Curly Sue! haha I know… I know! Of course, TheBreakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s and Pretty in Pink are such classics that no one can admit to hating! I loved John Candy and Steve Martin together, what a pair ! I still own my VHS copy of Planes, Trains and Automobiles!

I never realised he penned so many amazing movies (ok–some are not A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, but I’m sure you can find a fan base for Beethoven’s 5th and Drillbit Taylor!!!!). He can be credited for the following (among others):

* National Lampoon’s Class Reunion (1982), Vacation (1983), European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and American Adventure (2000)

* Mr. Mom (1983)

* Sixteen Candles (1984)

* The Breakfast Club (1985)

* Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

* Pretty in Pink (1986)

* Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)

* Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)

* The Great Outdoors (1988)

* Uncle Buck (1989)

* Home Alone (1990), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), 3 (1997), 4 (2002)

* Curly Sue (1991)

* Beethoven (1992) & Beethoven’s 2nd (1993), 3rd (2000), 4th (2001) and 5th (2003)

* Dennis the Menace (1993)

* 101 Dalmatians (1996)

* Flubber: The Absent Minded Professor (1997)

* Maid in Manhattan (2002)

* Drillbit Taylor (2008)

Nuts!!!
