Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Diddy, Jay-Z and now Maroon 5’s frontman Adam Levine… He is set to join their ranks of music stars launching a fashion line!
The collection will be called 222 — his lucky number! It was the address of the recording studio where the band first recorded a demo and Adam actually has it tattooed on his left forearm.
The line launches this week. “I’m passionate about fashion. I think it says something about yourself and, whether you care about clothes or not, what you wear reflects some kind of attitude towards style” says Levine.
Unlike his pop star peers, Levine’s foray into fashion is a homegrown/family affair!
He is partnering in the venture with his father, Fred Levine, who has operated a chain of 20 specialty boutiques in LA called M. Fredric for more than 30 years. Also part of the team is his stylist, Aristotle Circa, and a cousin of his father’s, Sami Cooper, who owns an apparel manufacturing facility that will produce the line.
Based on the look of the line, it’s easy to say that Adam stayed true to himself. ““It’s very simple and pure and durable. I collaborate on and approve every single piece of clothing in the line. I’m not just hawking something because I’m in a famous band.” The collection is a minimalistic line of jeans (150$-280$), basic T-shirts (30$) and leather jackets (biker style = 1250$)–his “uniform”! For women, there are also silk dresses, knit tops and wraps (all just over 100$).
Interestingly enough, Adam was known early on for performing in Yves St-Laurent suits and requesting designer clothing… “The novelty of the money got me interested in designers and fashion. And as materialistic as that was, it was also a valuable learning process where I learned about fashion and the craft that goes into it. It’s like playing music — you have to learn everything and then you can underplay what you know, if you do it tastefully.”
I like him and I like what I see — simple! I hope it works out for him and his family 🙂
